Five graduating seniors create vacancies in the ASG Executive Cabinet.
The 2010-2011 Associated Student Government Executive Cabinet elections will be held in early March. The executive cabinet election season begins on Feb. 2 with an informational meeting for all those who are considering running.
The Executive Cabinet consists of: Student Body President, Vice President for Student Services, Vice President for Community Relations, Vice President for Social Life, Vice President for Intramurals, Vice President for Student Ministries, Vice President for Finance, Residence Hall Council Director and Administrative Assistant.
The incumbents Mitchell Cloud (Community Relations), Kassy Cole (Social?Life) and Mike Davis (Student Ministries) will be ineligible for running again due to the fact that they will be graduating this May.
While Amy Cole, VP for Finance, and Roberta Coons-Redig, Administrative Assistant, are also seniors, their positions will not be filled through the election process. Students in these positions are appointed by the ASG adviser and others to their respective offices through an application process.
Except these positions, students may run for any of the other offices. The other incumbents may choose to run again, but none have announced intentions either way as of this printing.
In addition, each candidate will campaign from Feb. 13 to Feb. 24, the day of election primaries.
Many students wonder what ASG is all about and why they should run for positions. Current student body president Josh Dampf said that it ASG challenges students to let their voices be heard.
Even if running is not for you, he encouraged voting as a way to make to community a better place.
According to Ron Jackson, ASG advisor, ASG members are advocates for students to the campus administration and the Board of Trustees.
Dampf described ASG as the most impactful part of his MNU experience.
"ASG is a great way to learn, serve and grow with other amazing leaders," Dampf said.
Jackson echoed what Dampf had to say.
"ASG members…learn so much about themselves," Jackson said. "Most emerge from their time of service as better people."
The informational meeting will be in the Tipping Point on Feb. 2nd at 8 p.m.
