Back in the 1990s, MNU Mania was a marquee event, known back then as Lanpher Mania, as it was held in Lanpher basement, and professors such as Mike Gough and Neil Friesland participated in it.
For those who aren't sure yet, MNU Mania is a night of wrestling matches between students, faculty, and staff - as well as featuring the occasional special guest.
It is widely known that professional wrestling has been fake/scripted for years, and this event will be run in almost the exact manner.
Senior Mike Davis is the head of the student initiative to get MNU Mania restarted.
"We tried to do it last year, but no one was really motivated to do it," Davis said. "It seemed like I was the only who wanted this thing to take place."
Luckily, though, Davis was about to raise student and staff support of the event, as well as securing equipment.
"I found a guy in Iowa who owns his own wrestling ring and traveled around the country and does shows," Davis said. "So we rented it, and it's the real thing, a 16 foot by 18 foot professional ring."
Prior to the event, participants had been practicing their moves in Cook Center on cheerleading mats.
MNU Mania was just like the real deal, with TV2 providing four different camera angles, and they will be playing the footage from the event for the next several weeks.
Professor Mark Hamilton did the ring announcing.
