After welcoming their new coaches Josh and Jessie Magaha in mid November, the transformation of the squad began. The coaches have opened up many opportunities for the squad to become involved and advance their skills to be able to perform at many high skill level events.
The first cheer squad performance will be on Feb. 11 during half time of the men's basketball home game. They will also compete on Feb. 13 at the cheer competition at Central Missouri University and can also be seen at a guest appearance at the Labette High School competition.
The squad has been preparing for their performances 3 hours a night, three nights a week for close to a month. The routine that has been prepared consists of stunts, cheer, dance, and pyramids choreographed by a professional dancer/choreographer named JJ who is a long time friend of both coaches. Though the routine is no longer than 3 minutes, the preparation for success has been far longer and continues to be rewarding.
A lot of hard work and effort has been put into the success of the squad, and a large part is owed to the new coaches and their cheer/dance background. Josh Magaha, who was a yell leader at the University of Kansas has brought great pointers for not only the male yell leaders on the squad, but has enhanced the squads stunts, pyramids, and tumbling. Jessie Magaha, who danced at Gardner Edgerton High School, was also a Chiefs cheerleader and has brought her well-rounded skills and applied them to every practice.
The squad will continue to perform routines, especially during recruiting season.
Come support your Pioneer cheerleaders on Feb. 13 at Central Missouri University as they continue to support our MNU athletes.
