The Residence Hall Council and Associated Student Government have passed a proposal to lessen RHC responsibilities in the coming school year.

On Feb. 2, the proposal to cut the number of council positions, as well as the council's budget and responsibilities, was passed by the RHC large council.

On Feb. 10, the proposal came to the ASG Council, where it was passed. The changes are now awaiting approval from the Board of Trustees in May. If accepted, they will be implemented in the fall of 2010.

Among the changes are reductions in the number of RHC representatives. Instead of the 18 current representatives, there will only be five.

Stockton/Rice, Lanpher/Snowbarger, and Draper/Ramsey/Spindle will have one representative each. Uphaus and Colony West will still each have their own representatives.

Events such as the Mother-Daughter Weekend, MNU Mania and Midnight Madness will no longer be run by RHC. Instead, they will fall under the responsibilities of the ASG Vice President for Social Life.

The duties of RHC representatives will now include smaller dorm-oriented tasks such as dorm contests and competitions, writing birthday cards and monitoring suggestion boxes.

The position of RHC Director will change and will become the assistant to the ASG VP for Social Life.

Josh Dampf, MNU Student Body President, claims that these changes are for the betterment of our community.
