You may have noticed a new craze in the past few months involving the networking site Facebook. Several people have started deleting their accounts and leaving the site for good.
It may be because they find it too time consuming or that the Web site has gotten too big. Whatever the reason, people are now regularly leaving the Web site when a few years ago people were flocking to join it.
MNU senior MacKinzie Clark has left Facebook several times in the past, but something always keeps her coming back.
"I will randomly quit when I feel like Facebook has been consuming my life. A lot of times instead of doing my homework I will get on
Facebook, so I shut down my account for a while," Clark said. "I always come back because it's a great way to keep in contact with old friends."
Facebook may be distracting and time consuming, but it is a great way to stay in touch with people.
"No one really remembers their friend's e-mails and calling or texting isn't always available or convenient,"?Clark said. "I always get e-mails or calls asking why I left (Facebook) and that I need to get back on."
Sophomore Taylor Conant is another example of someone who has left Facebook and later returned.
"I left because I felt like I was spending too much time on it and checking it too much,"?Conant said. "I also felt like I couldn't just tell myself not to get on it. If it was there I was going to check it."
"I was off for about two weeks then I got back on because it is honestly a good way to keep in touch," she added.
There are also some people who have never had to deal with leaving Facebook and joining again. They never get distracted by it or get thousands of notifications of what their friends are doing or joining. This is because they have never had a Facebook account in the first place.
Junior Michael Hephner is one of these people.
"It just never interested me. I didn't like how much time people wasted on it," Hephner said.
