The Lady Pioneers picked up their 15th win on Monday, Feb. 15 when they defeated Central Methodist University. The Pioneers struggled to get into rhythm during the first half of the game and trailed by as many as 8 points.

They headed to the locker room trailing by 1. Central Methodist took the lead again for most of the second half and had a 10-point lead with 10 minutes remaining in the game.

"To be honest, it wasn't looking very good. I knew it was an important game and I was sad for the girls because I thought they were going to lose," junior Rachel Stadter said about her reaction to watching the game unfold.

Not all people shared the same thought as Stadter though.

"I honestly never had any doubt," junior forward Heather Cunard said. "That might sound a little cocky, but sometimes you just have a feeling of being in control even when you're down on the scoreboard."

"I knew it was too close for comfort, but I never really got to the point where I was worried."

But the Pioneers took control of the last 10 minutes and came out with a 65-56 victory over the Eagles.

"They outplayed us for 3/4 of the game but I'm proud of the way we finished," head coach Bill Olin said. Olin is retiring after this season.

"The fact that they turned the game around so quick was awesome. I definitely didn't expect it, and it was fun to watch," Pioneer fan junior Kevin Badoux said in reaction to the win.

The top scorers of the game were senior Bethany Rexroth with 28 points, junior Beth Keeley with 13 points and junior Hadleigh Meek with 10 points.

"I'm happy with our performance," Cunard said. "Of course there are things we need to work on that could have maybe made it less of a close game, but we held ourselves together and there was never a point in the game where we just choked."

"That is very important. We're working on perfecting our rebounding and cutting down on turnovers, so that's something that will help us continue to improve."

Another accomplishment for the Lady Pioneers was the announcement of Rexroth as the NAIA Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Tuesday, Feb.16. The winner is chosen out of a pool of conference players of the week selections among 12 conferences and independents.

This is Rexroth's second national player of the week honor this season.

Rexroth is a senior from Lenexa, Kan., and ranks among the top 10 nationally in many categories. She ranks third in field goal percentage and fourth in total scoring with 501 points this far. She also ranks fifth in defensive rebounds per game and sixth in total blocks. Her 19.3 points per game average ranks her eighth in Division I women's basketball.

Up next, the Pioneers will travel to Baker University on Thursday, Feb. 25 at 5:30 p.m. as they prepare to wrap up their second to last regular season game.
